1483093 2021-12-24 06:12:00 Have you noticed TV1 putting up the greeting "Meri Kirihimete!"? It's supposed to be maori for Merry Christmas.:illogical

Next thing they will be telling us that the maoris celebrated Christmas! The maoris had not even heard the Christian message until the colonists arrived. It’s just another made up maori word like Aotearoa. Next thing you know they’ll have a maori word for Easter as well. Where will it all end? :waughh:

1483095 2021-12-24 08:20:00 How come you call it Christmas?
Is that just some transliteration into your yokel language - why don't you use the proper way?

1483096 2021-12-24 09:16:00 I could forgive them if there was some genuine Maori language involved. But Misspelling English words and pretending that it is te reo is just tommyrot. A pathetic attempt at political correctness. Bah Humbug! Blue Druid (4480)

You mean the same way it has been misspelled and claimed as English?

1483100 2021-12-24 18:35:00 Why not use the real name of Winter Solstice, since it was a rape and pillage of the old pre christian winter festival. Back then they celebrated stuff all the time, but under the nailed fool its all you cannot do this, that or the other how boring. gary67 (56)

So maori isn't allowed new words, it was meant to stay static forever but English is allowed?

Why are you even speaking this then?
You should be saying

Yfel lîesan ðâs ð¯ær samhwyle pro Un−wemme cwide
êadiglic Hâligdæg

1483102 2021-12-24 20:12:00 And if that's too old for you, go back to the 1800s and say:

aerodrome acceleratorq airliner dashboard fuselage garage hangar limousine
motorway plane speedometer double-glazing, dust bowl, motel. Chunnel, pulsar, and stagflation infotainment. Dog-tag
Laser scuba automation television laptop Tivo Google (as a verb) Bromance Internet Selfie
Podcast Paywall Unfollow Blockchain Emoji

The Oxford English Dictionary records about 185,000 new words, and new meanings of old words, that came into the English language between 1900 and 1999.

Why aren't you complaining about that?
