| 1483033 | 2021-12-21 04:37:00 | We're to have new carpet. I'd rung insurance after my mum ended up in hospital with campylobacter....they sent a cleaner. He said he'd clean most of it and recommend replacing the bedroom bit. Insurance emailed and said not proceeding. Then I read further and it said replacing entire house lot. I'm rather surprised, it's old, and not matching any longer. So, the only thing is Carpet Court (their fav) has awful reviews so I changed it to Harrisons. I hate carpet. Unhygienic and worse it's in our dining room, a terrible idea, and it's also the main entrance, even worse. Always cleaning it.... We have rimu floorboards under it, would love to have polished floors in dining, hall, kitchen, 2 of the bedrooms. (Yes had them before, pretty and so easy to clean up) 2 other bedrooms sadly have weetbix board instead so stuck with carpet there. Oh well at least it will be new, and a dark colour this time. People say oh floorboards are cold, well, great, this house is like an oven most of the time. And Harrisons will help move the furniture, which CC said they only partly would do |

Maybe I will sometime, my carpet is 1997 vintage and it's showing. Always said I wouldn't replace it while I still had dogs, which I haven't for many years now. This website claims the costs are similar jhf.co.nz |

| 1483036 | 2021-12-22 16:59:00 | We have just had new carpet for similar reasons (cat). But my Insurer (State) would only pay for one room. Who is your Insurer? You are lucky to get a whole house. There are compounds, concrete like, that carpet layers use to create ramps if not too steep that they can lay carpet over but the compound is expensive. Carpet Court gave the State a quote, we got another from elsewhere and ended up negotiating a cash settlement (was to our advantage) and replaced the whole house. | Bryan (147) | ||
| 1483037 | 2021-12-22 18:52:00 | Surely ripping up the carpet and polishing the floor would cost less than new carpet, and since insurance companies love to get out of paying money, they'd be happy with that?? | Agent_24 (57) | ||
| 1483038 | 2021-12-22 21:38:00 | We have cork tiles on the dining room floor, and the adjacent entryway etc. They are nice, and wear well. | rumpty (2863) | ||

We stick with them because A)Premiums much the same with AA. (bugger state and definitely bugger Tower) B)No excess on glass and sanitary fittings. C)Matching carpet cover, that does depend which policy you have (contents) D)Never had an issue with claims. Yet. However it isn't matching anymore, my mum had a bit replaced 3 yrs ago, so I was surprised. I did dump them for car. After I stopped having 3 policies with them and only car(Cause the rest are my mums now) they renewed car, and dumped the sum insured down by $4000!!! Everyone else valued it far more, inc Red Book. AA renewed car just a few weeks ago and value only went down $900. |

It's not my house and therefore not my choice. My mum likes the carpet. Pity as I am the one stuck with cleaning up the er....and my brother will just have top pay someone to remove a lot of it eventually. |
