| 491209 | 2006-10-13 22:17:00 | For info. Running 5 year old MB Chaintech 7SID. A few weeks ago updated memory to 1GB. Recently run Everest Home Edition and noted CMOS value was 2.03 v. Changed battery, BIOS PC Health gave CMOS battery as 3.28v with incoming power supply as 3.32v. Checked old battery, slightly stained but gave 3.3 v. Booted up and Everest gave CMOS 3.28v, power 3.32v. Since then getting CMOS 3.26-3.28v in Everest after going into BIOS but a straight boot will give one of the following, 2.06v, 3.06v, 3.26v, 3.28v. Found battery had been changed about 2 years ago for same 2.03v reading. Did some Googling and found CMOS battery lives of 1-2 years, 5 years and 10 years, plus comment CMOS will work down to about 1.8v All very annoying. Presume Sensor on MB is dodgy for the CMOS reading but all other voltage, temperature and RPM readings appear OK. Suggest check, if feasible, the BIOS PC Health CMOS voltage before changing battery, but balance this against the making a record of the BIOS readings plus low cost and short time required to change the battery. |
