491176 2006-10-13 21:09:00 My aging pc seems to need a boost. Running XP sp2 on a Celeron 2.0 with 512 mb ram. All peripherals okay, used as home office etc not gaming, 40 gig hard drive half full just what would you do without major impact on power supply etc or chuck away and start again ?
Your views aprpreciated as my local pc man has moved.

491177 2006-10-13 21:17:00 If it does everything you want to do with it "used as home office etc not gaming", then I wouldn't do anything. Though in saying that, some extra RAM would offer a bit of a performance boost, for relatively little cost. somebody (208)
491178 2006-10-13 23:22:00 for home office extra ram proberly won't do a lot. find what cocket your motherboard has a nd find a p4 to fit in it.

why are you looking to upgrade, is it a bit slow doing certain things?

491179 2006-10-14 03:04:00 You don't need new hardware.
Just clean all the clutter out of WIndows. Thats all it will need.
Even better, do a fresh install.
Then it should last you another 30 years or so.

491182 2006-10-14 04:39:00  Celeron 2.0Ghz? You think that comp run new games? My old P4 is struggling with new games already and Celeron is problably worst. Even a cheap game like 18 Wheels of Steel wouldn't run well.
 For my suggestion is get a new PC if you want it for gaming with at least Dual Core.

;) I think I'll take Speedy advice this time. When you upgrade it it can't make much difference.
