490967 2006-10-12 17:32:00 Hey guys,

I'm trying to install windows on my laptop right, however it just doesn't want to boot for the first time.

My partition are set up as follows:
hda1: 1gb linux swap
hda2: ~16gb reiserfs
hda3: ~40gb fat32 data
- contains boot files ntdlr, boot.ini, etc
hda4: ~15gb
- contains actually windows files

OK, so I just finished the windows install (about 5 times) and no matter what i do it won't boot to complete the installation. It just gives "Disk Error".
Remeber to windows, hda3 is C: and hda4 is D:

Heres what I've done:

Set hda3 and hda4 to active with linux fdisk - no dice
Reinstalled GRUB, tried booting to both 3 and 4 - get NTDLR not found booting to hda4 (obviously) and Disk Error when booting to hda3
Tried deleting a line from boot.ini that said "C:\=unknown operating system" or similar. Boot.ini is pointing to hda4 - which should be correct right?
Installed grub to mbr or hda2 - no dice

So, you would think that it would be the 1024 sector boot error right? I installed the same way before. Linux first, then windows into hda3/4 however the only difference was I made windows format hda3 (to fat32) the first time as well as the hda4 to ntfs as I am doing now.

So anyone heard of it not installing because it hasn't formatted the disk first?
Cheers
