| 490915 | 2006-10-12 08:22:00 | Bought a new motherboard, CPU, RAM and video card and constructed a system using hard drive, DVD etc from the old system . Flick the power switch and it all starts up nicely with all the fans working and everything seemingly ok . I can get into the BIOS but after about ten seconds, the power cuts automatically and the machine turns off . What is likely to be happening here? I've checked connections and like the RAM and they seem to be secure . I've tried a different power unit but it still happens . I've tried it without the video card and it still happens . Sometimes it dies earlier and sometimes it lasts a little longer but it always crashes . I've run out of ideas what do try next . |

| 490921 | 2006-10-12 08:53:00 | Hmm I'd suspect overheating, can you see the temps in the BIOS before it cuts out . . . . ? I'll take a look next time I try to boot it up . I suspect overheating to but if the fans are going what will I have to do to cool it down? I haven't built a system before so I may be missing something really obvious . |

Yes connected - but I'll have another look as with a modular power unit it needs to be connected at both ends. I thought it wouldn't start if this wasn't plugged in. |
