490898 2006-10-12 07:30:00 Grrr. I have Rise of Legends... about 2 weeks old, and trying to install it on another pc. Unfortunately the third disk has a big scratch somehow, and won't install....

What can I do about it? Surely I don't have to buy the game again?

490899 2006-10-12 07:40:00 Which side is the scratch on. If it is on the clear side you can polish it out with car polish or tootpaste which both have a mild abrasive in them. To do that polish it by poishing from the centre of disk to the outside, don't go round in circles. If the scrach is on the label side toss it in the rubbish bin.

490901 2006-10-12 08:08:00  Scratched? Did it physically? I don't think they'll refund it. lol. Rise of Legends is not that fun but Age of Empires III is for me and I really like the story too. PedalSlammer (8511)
490902 2006-10-12 08:13:00 Legally you can download an ISO of disc 3 or even all the disks. Because it is legal to make a backup of games/applications you have bought. So if you can't repair the scratch just find an ISO of the 3rd disc on the net. There is bound to be one. Fishy (10540)
490903 2006-10-12 08:17:00 Rise of Legends is not that fun but Age of Empires III is for me and I really like the story too.Just tried it the other day. I found it disappointing - expected a lot better. And the Home City thing is just a pain. Greg (193)
490904 2006-10-12 09:06:00 Most video shops have a polishing service that will restore it no trouble. I've used it and it doesn't cost much either. I think it is franchised through the Video Ezy chain. Google for it.

Faster and better than stuffing around trying to polish it yourself, especially if it is a big scratch.

Cheers

490905 2006-10-12 10:40:00 Yeah I take scratched DVDs and Game CDs to Video Ezy, they do 3 for $20 IIRC. Im sure if you search thru /. they recommend the cheap and thin hair-gel... Chilling_Silence (9)
490906 2006-10-12 19:58:00 ...or you can do it yourself. Places like DSE have scratch repair kits Myth (110)
