490851 2006-10-12 01:07:00 I have 2 PC's networked and it works fine all except that Computer B won't log on the the internet thru the 56 k modem on computer A. it used to work before Computer A went to get a new MB and HD.

Computer A is an Acer Celeron 2.80Ghz with 704 meg of RAM available it has a sotware modem 56k.

Computer B is a PC Company AMD Athlon 997Mhz 504 meg of RAM

Both A & B are running XP home SP 2 and are upto date with all patches.

Any suggestions on what to look for and check?

Thanks in advance

490852 2006-10-12 01:13:00 Have you made sure the the connection is set up to share properly. When you go into control panel, internet option, connection, properties and then advanced there is a flag there that may need to be turned on. Give that a blast and let me know. Cheers. Also might pay yo upgrade to ADSL as the prices are starting to come down now. CaptinMoor (8392)

490854 2006-10-12 04:35:00 Use the home network wizard on the machine that has the modem, leave the settings for workgroup etc, but make sure that the option for ICS is used when you come to it, and make sure that the IP address of computer B has computer A as the 'gateway' within the TCP/IP properties page. Run the Wizard but didn't find any otion to turn on ICS. Where do you find the ICS option?

490856 2006-10-16 03:52:00 ICS option is under the dialup. And no dont use the wizard, it sucks and makes things worse. Put the ip addresses in manually.

And make sure you're using a crossover cable or a ethernet hub.

And if a firewall besides XP's is installed configure it so the networked pc gets on the net.

I am using a cross over cable. Both PC's are talking to each other. The remote PC will not bring any pages ect on Explorer or using email Outlook Express
