| 491097 | 2006-10-14 03:51:00 | hey ya'll, well, basically ive been learning a little about how the internet network works in nz and what not and i want to know something about the cabinets that then go the exchange. how close would it be? are they like, a 500m radis thing or bigger? i have one thats..about 150metres away, would that be the one im on? this is just for pure interest, just wondering how far everything is away from me etc so i can get an idea of what might be the problem. |

Newer ones tend to be smaller, but most are still in the older larger buildings designed to house electro-mechanical exchange equipment of the day. www.wcl.govt.nz Hope this helps :) |

| 491099 | 2006-10-14 09:01:00 | yeah thanks stu, i kinda know what they look like, just a cabinet about, a metre tall, about 65cm wide and in my area, panted green.. the funny thing is, they are generally ALWAYS left unlockd.. so i had a look in one of these cabinets and just saw heaps of little cables going into one big block thing, thats how i came to the conclusion that its a cabinet that goes to the exchange btw, i know what the exchange looks like in my suburb, its a old fire station, you can see in the barred windows that theres LOTS of big tall computer things.. also, im still wondering, in a pretty populated suburb, not like farmland and stuff but like, you know a normal suburb, how many cabinets per square km would there be? cause i think that one about 150meters away might be the one im connected to but im not sure. is there a map of west auckland showing were all exchanges and cabinets are? |
