491100 2006-10-13 11:39:00 I am building a new PC. Not rich so want the best I can get for my money. In the past I have only used AMD but I am not sure about the performance compared to the price. In the specs below the Intel CPU is about $40 cheaper than the AMD processor. The parts I am looking at follow.

Intel Pentium D Processor 2.80Ghz LGA775 2X1M Cache 800FSB
1GB DDR2-533 Memory
Asus P5SD2-X SIS 656 LGA775 ATX 800FSB PCI-E X16 DDR2
Asus 7300GS 256MB PCI Express HD-TV DVI-I
ChiMei CMV CT-937A 19" LCD Wide Screen
Western Digital Caviar SE 200GB SATA II 7200RPM 8MB Cache
TK-9517 BLACK+SILVER 450W MIDI CASE Approx $1193.40

Or

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+, Dual Core Socket AM2 2GHz
Asustek M2V VIA K8T890 Socket AM2 Athlon 64 CPU ATX
1GB DDR2-533 Memory
Asus 7300GS 256MB PCI Express HD-TV DVI-I
ChiMei CMV CT-937A 19" LCD Wide Screen
Western Digital Caviar SE 200GB SATA II 7200RPM 8MB Cache
TK-9517 BLACK+SILVER 450W MIDI CASE Approx $1248.07

Any advice and even opinions will be appreciated.

491101 2006-10-13 12:15:00 why go for a cheap brand like ''chingmakakahaha''

go for a normal, real brand, which is only a LITTLE bit more expensive.

other than that, go for the amd, and id recommend going for like, a 7900gt if you want to be able to game, without the setings being ALL low.

491102 2006-10-13 12:20:00 AMD is the better chip in my opinion

recommend Viewsonic for the monitor

Nvidia 7600 GT for a video card, the 7900 is nice but pricy, should pick up a 7600 cheaply enough.

I agree and get a Seagate hard drive too.

491104 2006-10-13 18:57:00 I personally think AMD is the better chiip.

That case, what brand is it? if it is a cheap no-named brand, I would not trust the PSU.

DeSade - Why does he need a powerful GFX card? He does not need such a powerful card unless he is gaming or 3D GFX etc, inbuilt will evemn do the job if it is a little MS Office, internet etc. But then the 1Gb RAM has me thinking otherwise...

OP can you give us a description of your use for the machine?

True if I buy cases, I tell the shop to remove the PSU, and they take so much off the case, then I buy my own PSU.

Graphics is always a priority with me, he didn't specify the use so I recommended a card that could handle whatever he wanted to throw at it.

491107 2006-10-14 01:05:00 Money is a major issue for me so I want to get the best computer I can for the least amount of money :help: (Don't We All). My present computer has 2 80GB hard-drives and a good PSU that I can use in my new computer. there are also a few other things that I will be able to scrounge from this computer, mainly to keep the price down. I was going to try to get a motherboard that would take PC3200 184-Pin DDR so I could save on RAM but I decided that I should get one that is going to have a better upgrade path.
I want an ATX motherboard and a dual core processor. These are the main components that I want to find out about. I am only getting a new case because the one I got with my present computer is like a giant siutcase, it even has a handle on the top.
As for the graphics card I have an APG 128MB 6600gt at present and that seems to handle everything that I need so how does that compare with the 7300GS 256MB PCI Express?
I can see the point in selecting a better monitor and would probably be able to stretch to a 19" viewsonic but I would like to know if there are any advantages in going for a wide-screen model?

I spose if u get a LCD TV or plan on watching DVD's (if u have a DVD / burner on the system it'll be better). Besides that u dont need a widescreen.

I'm using 19" widescreens here.

But dont really play DVD's on these PC's. I'll rather play them on the stereo.

But I record from the onboard tuner sometimes, which can be viewed / recorded in widescreen. Then I can burn whatever to DVD later.

Only thing I spose is, you can see more on the screen at the same time.

The other LCD you've posted in the first post, is the other LCD I'm using here.

491109 2006-10-14 02:07:00 So you are using a ChiMei CMV CT-937A 19" LCD Wide Screen. I like to hear from someone that actually use a product as they know the pros and cons from experience.
What is it like?
