| 491918 | 2006-10-16 23:41:00 | It's a couple of pixels too wide in Firefox 1.5.0.3/Linux. It looks like you've hit the difference between the border box and standard models. The CSS standard specifies that the width and height of an element include the padding but not the border or the margin. Firefox follows the standard in this. Internet Explorer, in its typical way, does things differently. They use the 'border box' model. In this model the width of an element includes the padding and the border but still excludes the margin. This means that if an element has a 1 pixel border all around, it will be 2 pixels smaller in each dimension in IE than in a standard browser. This can lead to a horizontal overflow of a couple of pixels if people design their site to work in IE and assume it will work elsewhere. This tendency towards arrogantly ignoring standards is one of the main reasons that I wouldn't use IE even if it were more secure, faster, and had more features than Firefox. |

| 491919 | 2006-10-17 00:07:00 | This is what I get on my 1280x1024 monitor: in Firefox 1.0.7 - screen shot 1 (imagef1.net.nz) (64 KB). Firefox 1.0.7 - screen shot 2 (imagef1.net.nz) (39 KB) Well that's exactly what I get too. Methinks it's a design fault their side, not specific to browser. Ta. |
