492264 2006-10-17 23:37:00 ok does anyone have vodafones vodem? As u know it has 2 usb connectors because it says sometimes it may need to be plugged into 2 usb ports. Has anyone got the vodem and does it worked when plugged into just 1 usb port? I don't know why a small device like that has 2 usb plugs. lance4k (4644)

492266 2006-10-18 00:11:00 Usually when a device has two plugs on it, it is because on USB port can not provide enough power to run the device.
Remeber that this device does not plug into the wall at all so it will be taking all its power from your USB ports. If it will run without the second plug being inserted it means that your usb port is supplying plenty of mA to run it from one port

492267 2006-10-18 00:12:00 having 2 USB plugs is actually quite efficient, compared to having a big bulky AC power connector, which defeats the purpose of being mobile.

all USB 2.5" external HDD's have 2 USB plugs aswell, this is becuase notebook USB's dont usually pump out as much power as a desktop's USB will, this is becuase a notebook is meant to be portable, and not crunch through so much battery power.

492268 2006-10-18 00:31:00 Would that mean that if I plug both of the usb plug into the computer my notebook HDD will run faster? Ninjabear (2948)

nope. if the HDD runs fine on one USB port, shows up, and you are able to copy thigns from it, and to it, then it wont increase its performance if you plug the second USB plug in.

492270 2006-10-18 01:37:00 oh ok, so u know those Usb printers,do they have 2 usb adapters too or do they have 1 usb adapter and an ac adapter? lance4k (4644)

Your average USB printer will take a USB plug (for data) and an AC adapter for power. but if your talking about Mobile printers that go hand in hand with your Notebook, then i don't much about it sorry, as the last one i saw was when my father had one on his Win95 Lappy that conencted through a Paralell port back when i was just a wee lad.

492272 2006-10-18 07:18:00 Portable USB printers usually have a battery pack and rechargeable battery.

Desktop USB printers have a mains power pack.

A powered USB port will deliver 2.5 Watts Max per port (often less) (5v at 0.5 amps per port)

If the device uses more than that (or 2 times that for dual port), it cannot be USB powered and must have an alternate power source.

Clear enough lance4k?
