| 492252 | 2006-10-17 21:15:00 | When performing a Windows XP repair, it asks for a Administrator Password. What shall (can) I do if I can't remember what it was? Is there a way to get around it? Cheers |

How to reset the password if one can't even load Windows? I think this REPAIR feature in XP is not really helpful. Or there is some other way to overcome this password issue. |

| 492255 | 2006-10-17 21:55:00 | There is no other way to ignore the password request. U can try to do a fresh installation without formetting ur windows drive[may be 'c']. by this way can save all ur important data on drive c. |

| 492257 | 2006-10-18 01:08:00 | Windows requires the administrator password for a repair install? That's just plain rediculous - it doesn't need it at all. Download and burn a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD - www.ultimatebootcd.com This comes with a tool called "Offline NT Password and Registry Editor" which can reset the password of any account. In your case changing it is probably adequate but you can quite easily crack the passwords as well using a tool like Ophcrack (http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/). It comes with a live CD - you put it in the drive, reboot and it starts cracking all passwords found on the machine (LM only - NTLM tables are much larger than a CD). Generally alphanumeric passwords can be broken extremely quickly (i.e. minutes). This isn't just a local problem either - these passwords can be cracked using data obtained through network sniffing. Windows security is a fragile illusion maintained by such pathetic attempts as that completely unneccesary password prompt it just asked you for. |
