492164 2006-10-17 11:14:00 My wireless router does not seem to be working

when i connect the computers to it (one wired and one wireless) i cant seem to be able to access the internet (yes it is connected to the modem too). I try going into the adsl modem configuration and it says its connected, but i still cant even access the internet.

I also restored the router to its factory settings but it still doesnt fix it

the only way i can access the internet is by plugging the comps directly into the adsl modem

help.........is there something i might have missed?

492165 2006-10-17 13:02:00 so one is wired and gets internet?

what is the make/model of the router? (i may have the same one)

have you run the network setup wizard on the wireless machine?

492166 2006-10-17 19:14:00 How are the machines getting their IP addresses? DHCP or are you setting static IPs? CYaBro (73)
492167 2006-10-18 04:43:00 after a re-read it sounds like you need to use the network setup wizard, again if you have already. motorbyclist (188)
492168 2006-10-18 05:13:00 I doubt the network setup wizard would help. Assuming you have the correct network settings (remember when you reset the router you may chance the IP range) are you able to connect to the router when its connected directly via cable to a client?

Simplify the equation by removing extra clients and modems etc. Dont use wireless as it can complicate matters. First focus on attempting to access the router directly, then add more items to your network.

492169 2006-10-18 06:54:00 The gateway of your client PC should be the adsl modem, not the router...

Do a ipconfig /all at a DOS prompt. default gateway IP address should match that of the modem IP address

492170 2006-10-18 07:12:00 umm . . . the computer that is connected to the router, via the network cable is also experiencing the same problem

also one other thing . . . . . . . . . . . when i go to ipconfig . with the router attached, it says
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Cable Disconnected

Default gateway should be the Modem's IP address? I'm using the Router's IP address as the default gateway and my network works fine!

Why is it local area connection 3, not local area connection 1?

Have you tried plugging into different ports on the router?

Depends how you have the modem connected. If it is connected to the WAN port on the router then you will have your setup.
