492174 2006-10-18 08:03:00 I doubt the network setup wizard would help.

we cant say that without trying it, what harm could it do?

earlier today another thread was resolved by re-running the wizard.

by running the wizard the internet connection will be set up properly, in theory.

typical windows to only work after using a wizard to redo exactly what you have just done manually though.

How many network ports do you have in your computer?

Do you get the "network cable is unplugged" message no matter what port on the router you plug into? If local area network 3 is your only network connection, the "cable is unplugged" message indicates a hardware fault

492177 2006-10-19 00:48:00 Default gateway should be the Modem's IP address? I'm using the Router's IP address as the default gateway and my network works fine!

If your router is the gateway, then yes, but the router in this instance does not provide the internet, the modem does!

492178 2006-10-19 01:40:00 please tell me you ran the wizard, it does set all this up (or is meant to)

if it fails i'll then offer other, overly complicated solutions

492179 2006-10-19 03:01:00 So, has this guy read the manual yet, a new router with instructions, whats so hard about reading the instructions?! SolMiester (139)
492180 2006-10-19 05:13:00 The "Cable is unplugged" message can mean that you are using a crossover cable where you should be using a straight-through cable (or vice versa). The transmit pair at one end has to be connected to the receive pair at the other, unless you have self-configuring hardware. Not all hardware is.

If you are using the cable you used to connect to the ADSL modem directly to connect to a router, this could be the problem.
