492849 2006-10-20 01:33:00 Im trying to remove a background image on Windows 2000 that only appears during booting of the OS and shutting windows down. After its fully loaded my chosen background image appears over the top, then the unwanted image reappears during shut down.

Basically my former colleagues fiance is not needed to say hello and goodbye everyday now :D

492850 2006-10-20 04:38:00 That is called a splash screen (groups.google.co.nz/group/microsoft.public.windowsnt.misc/browse_thread/thread/9e57ad4c21dfcce6/848fdc0076723666%23848fdc0076723666), and the thread suggests a registry location to change.

It looks as if it's something that an "expert" user would change, and Microsoft haven't made it easy: they want to show their splash screen at start up. :D

Someone else might have some ideas ...

492851 2006-10-20 09:01:00 I'm a bit lazy to look, but doesn't TweakUI have a function to get rid of it? Greg (193)
492852 2006-10-20 09:39:00 Isn't this more of a case of a extra (default) wallpaper that is briefly displaying rather than a boot splash which is earlier on?

I've seen this before, and I think I got rid of it by changing the wallpaper around several times before going back to my preferred wallpaper. Can you see any reference to this picture under the Display settings?

492854 2006-10-20 19:35:00 Ok, just had another wee look and the images didnt appear until after the log on screen so I figured, rightly or wrongly, probly not a registry job.

So all I did was select no image for background (so it was set to blue) then selected a background image. So now the blue loads instead of some saucy Argentinian bird, then the selected wallpaper.

Thanks for your help.
