Intermittent Broadband Disconnections

Some customers nationwide have experienced intermittent disconnections of their broadband service recently.

You will notice that while your Broadband connection may only be disconnected for a few minutes, congestion occurs when large numbers of customers attempt to logon at the same time.

When these issues occur, our Contact Centre receives a significant increase in calls which unfortunately also increases our average wait times.

If your Broadband connection stops working, you may be able to re-establish a connection by:

Switching your Broadband router or modem off for at least 15 minutes before trying again.

If this does not allow you to reconnect, we suggest leaving your router switched off, and trying to reconnect every half an hour or so.

We apologise for the inconvienience these issues are causing, and we are working as quickly as possible to achieve a permanent resolution.
Expected to be resolved by: 18/10/2006 5:53:00 p.m.

I'm getting a bit fed up with paying for something that your not getting, they soon inform you when you go over your limit

Is anyone experiencing problems with other ISP's BB connections ?

I have had exactly the same issues for the last few weeks. I have asked for some compensation for the outages, but still awaiting their reply.

492748 2006-10-20 04:38:00 This is Slingshots reply to the problems, and it sounds like they are blaming telecom . They don't even provide a name of the person who replied . It appears that even if you pay for a service with slingshot, they don't actually have to provide it to you . I am not sure if that this term is a breach of the fair trading or consumer guarantees act . It is a pretty poor response and doesn't help in any way . I am moving to Xtra when they come out with their new plans, at least then I will be directly contracted with teh broadband providers .

Really, I know she gives the impression of being a bit of a "party girl" but asking everyone else to be naked is not helping the situation is it .

492750 2006-10-20 08:17:00 I got this outage twice in the last three days.

I just switch off my modem and waited about 15 - 20 minutes before turning it back on, and it worked again. Sometimes 5 minutes should do the trick. So I don't find this a major issue really. They're cheap, and speeds are reasonable too - unlike Quicksilver which had really bad international speeds (was with them about 5 months ago, not sure what they're like now though).

The only difference between you lot and I... I changed what DNS servers I was using. But alas... certain people won't listen ... so ***** away, whilst I enjoy my bandwidth :D

In fact I've been connected more than usual these past couple of weeks, with no issues that I've noticed (and none that wifey has complained about).

Yes but if changing the DNS was the solution, why don't they put that as the solution on their website. I asked them about changing the DNS settings to telecom but they didn't know anything about it .

I asked them about changing the DNS settings to telecom but they didn't know anything about it .Of course not - Telecom is a different (competing) company. Why would they recommend you change from their DNS to Telecom's?

Anyway, I am using Slingshot's default DNS addresses, and still having no problems. It might be location specific.
