492684 2006-10-19 08:06:00 You cant remove IE completely, as it gets installed with Windows .

The only way you'll do this, is if u use something like Nlite, a program which lets u remove programs etc .

BUT, you'll have to reformat the hdd and reinstall Windows to do this .

To make firefox the default browser, go to its prefs somewhere and make it the default browser .

I dont think the balloons you're seeing have anything to do with what browser you're using .

And I dont think hotmail would work properly, with other browsers .

492685 2006-10-19 08:56:00 It doesn't sound like you have done a virus or spyware clean . Follow the instructions on this page ( . net . nz/index . php?title=Spyware%2C_Adware_%26_Viruses" target="_blank">faqf1 . net . nz) to give the PC a cleanout .

And in future don't go clicking on balloons that say you have spyware, viruses or trojans . It's a good way of adding them by doing that .

Hotmail works OK with Firefox. I'm using Firefox and there is no problem with my Hotmail.

492687 2006-10-19 09:17:00 hotmail works completely fine with firefox ....firefox is already set as a default browser ..even then these popups open up on internet explorer ..

i have checked my system with spybot and upgraded my norton antivirus completely and also done a full system scan .no virus were found ..just these completely anoying popups ...internet explorer dsnt allow me to go to sertain websites such as bebo.com and ultimate guitar.com...it says this is blocked bcoz of some adware n stuff ...

i recently found out that there is this one " DSO Exploit" dat just stays there after ive done a spy bot search ..i fix it n it comes back if i rescan my system seconds after ..

if anyone has got any solutions on gettin rid fo spyware ..i would really apprciate some help ..

chhers !

492688 2006-10-19 09:22:00 There are programs that can remove IE after u install Windows, but then if there are sites that rely on IE in order to work properly, (because of ActiveX) then u have a prob.

Windowsupdate may be ok, since there's a plugin for firefox I think.

I see the final v of IE 7 is out now too. Came out yesterday.

492691 2006-10-19 16:50:00 I am not an expert, but the only thing that I would not allow in my computer is this:

C:\Program Files\HQVideoCodec\pmmon . exe

It gets a few hits when you Google it as spyware . . . so much for what you have as nothing else gets that result . . . but every instance of things with that root name to it (HQVideoCodec . . . etc) comes back as spyware .

Of course, I would never trust Norton/Symantec/McAfee for security in any way and they don't exist on my system either!
