| 492622 | 2006-10-19 16:17:00 | Something in the back of my mind tells me there is a simple answer. How much RAM do you have? What did Belarc reveal about it? We really need some system info on what you have to get a little deeper into your problem. OPSYS? Browser? Updates? Security stuff? I had this problem with an IBM Thinkpad (386-98SE) that didn't have enough resourses like RAM or processor speed to defrag well. It took hours if not overnight to get thru it at all. In the end I threw the silly thing at the wall and never looked back. It still is useable as a door stop. There are a few things that you can try...... Turn off any scheduled activities that might be interfering with the defrag. Try to run defrag in Safe Mode again. Shut down all your anti-spy and security stuff and make sure you are not online with your provider, (disconnect your landline connection...this MIGHT be a dialer you're fighting!), as you are going to be running naked and very susceptable to malware at that time. You can try a HiJackThis (majorgeeks.com) scan and submit it here for perusal by the experts in that venue. Be sure to install/download this program in a non-temporary area so you can use it correctly. |

| 492623 | 2006-10-19 21:24:00 | I have 1gb of Ram. My Operating System is a Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) My processor is a 1.67 gigahertz Intel Core Duo, 64 kilobyte primary memory cache, 2048 kilobyte secondary memory cache My browser is firefox. All of my updates are up to date. I use symantec antivirus and ad-aware, which are both up to date. I also tried doing it in safe mode, restarting it, and making sure nothing was interfering, but the same message came up again. Ugh, this suks!:badpc: |

| 492626 | 2006-11-04 23:00:00 | I might have hit something here: You have LoJack installed on your laptop...and from friends reports, this is a very spooky and unstable device...if you didn't steal the puter and are trying to deny it access to the internet to report where it is. I am not suggesting that you stole this puter, but that this system is full of bugs and corrupts itself and is, quite frankly....pretty useless at least in the US. There are hacks to get around it...but I personally don't know what they are. Might I suggest a full burn-down and re-install of Windows? :blush: Doing a reformat is the last resort for a cleaning of malware. If you have done it before and know how to reload all your drivers etc, you can do it, but you lose all of your files. |

| 492627 | 2006-11-04 23:01:00 | BTW: You have HJT in a temp file area...I suggest you send it to a permenant file/folder so it can perform backups to your system. | SurferJoe46 (51) | ||
