492825 2006-10-19 22:53:00 Is it actually possible to truely disable this service?
It starts everytime i run itunes. Quite irritating actually since i dont have an ipod. I went into the services section of the computer management mmc.exe console. I stopped the service then set it to disabled. I then ran itunes and in the taskmanager, look who i found... iPodService.exe
As far as i know ill only ever need it if i get an ipod, so i dont want to remove the service totaly, but if its the only way ill do it. any tips on how to get it to stay dead?

492826 2006-10-20 00:07:00 Take a hint from the fact that when you run itunes, the service runs and becomes "automatic".
The reason for this is tha itunes will re-enable the service.
If you dont have an ipod then maybe consider not using itunes, There is many other softwares out there that will do the same thing but with less bloating on your system.
If you really must use itunes then get over the fact that there is a service using ~3MB of system resources!

492827 2006-10-20 00:37:00 What can i say, I love iTunes.

I know its bad, i spend all this time optimizing my system so that im using soo little memory, i just replaced windows live messenger with Miranda IM, which uses less than 10MB of memory, sometimes as little as 2MB.
ive tried foobar2000, was really impressed by its ultra low memory usage, its just i didnt have a week to set it up so it would rival the experience ive had with itunes, which im sure is quite possible.
Basicly if i must use itunes, i want to make it use as little memory as i can, so there goes ituneshelper.exe and ipodservice.exe
ituneshelper.exe didnt mind in the slightest, but ipodservice wont die. If i kill it while itunes is running, nothing bad happens, but if i leave it there, and quit itunes, it stays there till i reboot my computer or i kill the process.
So basicly firefox and itunes are my main memory consumers.

492828 2006-10-20 03:53:00 So, whats the point in having Itunes if u dont have an Ipod?

Or if u want to use something once u get an Ipod, Use Winamp and the Mlipod plugin. Which does exactly the same thing as Itunes.
(you can copy MP3's/video to and from an Ipod).

The only thing that Itunes is good for is updating the firmware. Since this is what V7 of Itunes does.

You can't do much else (besides add album art/MP3's), and maybe add podcasts (if u had an Ipod) with it. If you're in NZ.
