493093 2006-10-21 08:31:00 Firefox = IE. Thunderbird Email = OE. Is there any serious advantage to changing to Firefox & Thunderbird. ?? I assume that if I send a Thunderbird Email to someone using OE that there would be no problems, they are compatible?? PJ Poppa John (284)
493094 2006-10-21 08:40:00 Firefox doesn't equal IE but Netscape/Mozilla. The advantage is being a lot more secure then IE.

And yes they work together :)

I personally use Firefox and Outlook as I have no problem with OE but IE is just too much of a let down to use (Dunno if it's just me but doing a scan after a day of IE surfing brings in heaps of adware while the same surfing in FF brings nothing).

PJLess security issues with Firefox and Thunderbird (well according to the experts anyway... can't say I have really gotten more or less issues with either). One thing I did notice are that there are less hassles with Firefox and Thunderbird (if one doesn't go, you dont have to uninstall the other like with OE and IE).

I think he means Firefox is (or was) in the same family as Netscape/Mozilla.

Personally I would recommend going with Eudora if you are thinking of changing email clients. Admittedly I am more familiar with Eudora than Thunderbird but I have always found it easy to use, once you get used to the big difference between it and OE, and backups are a real breeze.

Another feature I really like is attachments going into their own Attachment folder rather than staying "connected" to the email message like in OE. And, of course, the security is much higher as well. ;)

PS It makes no difference what email client you use, they all send and receive emails regardless of what browser and even operating system you use.

493099 2006-10-21 09:01:00 Internet Browsers:
Firefox
Moxilla
Netscape Navigator
Opera
Gecho
Konqueror
Internet Explorer
many more

These will all handle your webpages you like looking at, IE is the most common, Firefox is just better in many ways. While others like Opera :)

Email Clients
Thunderbird
Pegasus
Opera
Netscape comunicator
Mozilla
Outlook
Outlook Express
many more

These will all do the emailing stuff, OE the most common, Outlook is good for office use if everyone on the network uses it. Thunderbird is Firefoxs' sister and is my pick for home use.

There is also webmail, with these you log into a website with your Internet browser eg, Gmail, Hotmail, many ISP's also offer webmail.

493100 2006-10-21 09:15:00 I used to use Thunderbird but switched to KMail (*nix only) the day I used it on another computer and it saved my hide by saying :

The message you have composed seems to refer to an attached file but you have not attached anything.
Do you want to attach a file to your message?

Who could ask for a more intelligent mail client?

493102 2006-10-22 04:02:00 Thanks for the replies, given me something to ponder upon. I have been with IE & OE so long it is hard to make a move. PJ Poppa John (284)
