493072 2006-10-21 07:48:00 I recently updated my ZonAalarm firewall to version 6.5.737 and now at random times it decides to completely block my internet access. I'm 100% sure it is ZoneAlarm that is blocking internet access not an outage, etc because it works fine when I disable it. I SWEAR I have not meddled with any of the settings. Permission is allowed to the necessary programs (Firefox, etc). This is starting to become an annoyance and I'm tempted to move back to the Windows firewall. Help me guys?

Edit: Internet Zone Security and Trusted Zone Security are set to High and Medium respectively.

493073 2006-10-21 07:53:00 Set it to default settings, it maybe too high.

Or its proxy service maybe turning off which is a common thing with this if u use XP. This will stop u browsing the net. But will let u update thru programs.

Thats why I got rid of ZA. Coz its service kept on turning itself off, it got annoying.

493075 2006-10-21 08:01:00 High and Medium are the recommended settings and yes, automatic lock is set to off. jason_f90 (3544)
493076 2006-10-21 08:23:00 Are u using XP? If u r go to control panel / admin tools / services.

Look for proxy service. Dbl click on it. Whats startup type and status on, under the general tab?

493077 2006-10-21 08:30:00 one thing i have noticed that happens on some pc's (including my own) is windows DNS palys up. in ZA put the DNS servers addy in the trusted zone. you will need to allow programs "server, trusted" tweak'e (69)
493078 2006-10-21 08:39:00 Speedy Gonzales, I cannot find any 'Proxy Service' under services. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h88/jason_f90/Proof.jpg (i62.photobucket.com)

tweak'e, I will wait till the next time ZoneAlarm decides to block my internet access and try what you suggested. Btw, thanks guys for all the help.

493079 2006-10-21 09:14:00 Is there a proxy service there anywhere? It may not be called proxy service, but ZA does put one in services.

It maybe under the pic u posted.

493080 2006-10-22 13:35:00 I gave up on ZA . I actually liked it until the last update a couple of months ago, then it went downhill fast .

I use Comodo now and its been pretty kick ass so far

So why did you update it? Can never understand why people do that . Its a firewall not an AV .
I'm still using ZA V4 .
