493604 2006-10-24 18:14:00 I get my 50Xspindle Verbatim online for around $35. Always work great.

Where do you get those?

493605 2006-10-25 04:34:00 Super Zero from PBTech.co.nz (Hamilton and Auck). $29 for a 50 spindle. Never had a failure. Princo ok but they don't print right to the centre and I had at least 2 failures per spindle. andy (473)

493607 2006-10-25 07:06:00 I use Verbatim DVD+R never had a issue, always used at max speed, not printed thou. For CD-R Warehouse "Transonic" also burnt at max speed but not printable. Never had an issue with my media apart from with my old HP CDRW Drive (2x speed parallel port external version). I now have a LG internal. Nomad (952)
493608 2006-10-25 07:29:00 Verbatim. Always buy them now and is the only brand I will use. On an Asus DRW-1608P burner. Princo seem great to start with but they don't have a very long archive life I have found. Used Imation for a while but read they were using CMC brand which I don't like. So now it is alwats Verbatim and I do print on mine. Tukapa (62)
493609 2006-10-25 07:45:00 I've ordered some Princo - oh well, they weren't that expensive. I might just lose them, and get something better. What I put on DVDs, I want to last a while - slide shows, family occasions, etc.

I appreciate everyone's help, as usual. You're a great resource - I'm always looking for answers at the last minute!

If you want them to last then don't buy the cheapos . Go for archival DVDs and CDRs . .

493611 2006-10-25 20:00:00 Buy one of those cheap aluminium cases from the Wharehouse. They hold from 300 to 600 discs depending on which one you get. they are light proof and if you keep them in a cool place you will get a longer life from your discs. andy (473)
493612 2006-10-26 08:23:00 Verbatim - out of a 50x spindle only had one dud. Print quality is excellent, I use a Canon Pixma Ip 5000 with terrific results. tophook (10328)
493613 2006-10-26 10:01:00 Whats the point of having CDs or DVDs that you expect to be able to read in twenty years time? We most likely will have moved on to yet another type of media and there won't be any cd or dvd readers around to read them with, the software will be obsolete and you should have moved all your data onto whatever is current then. 1st rule of technology hardware - buy for now, tomorrow it will be cheaper but next week it'll be obsolete!

Yep - I agree. But then I am not talking about twenty years when having longevity problems. I am talking six months!
