493103 2006-10-22 05:44:00 Thanks for the replies, given me something to ponder upon. I have been with IE & OE so long it is hard to make a move. PJ

i made the move to firefox and have never looked back :D

as for thunderbird, my one friend said not to bother while the other said do. i trust the latter more but really cannot be bothered

493104 2006-10-22 05:44:00 PJ, I moved to Eudora for email about 6 years ago (From Outlook).

They have a "lite" version (free), a full version that is ad-supported (free) or a paid version which removes the ads. (The ad is a 1" square moveable overlay, quite tame)

I feel a great deal of sympathy for those still using OE and it's overly complex requirements for file management.

493105 2006-10-22 06:12:00 Internet Browsers:
Firefox
Moxilla
Netscape Navigator
Opera
Gecho
Konqueror
Internet Explorer
many more

Email Clients
Thunderbird
Pegasus
Opera
Netscape comunicator
Mozilla
Outlook
Outlook Express
many more

Mozilla! I guess Moxilla was a typo . . .

First there was Netscape . Then MS came along and killed them with IE .
Netscapes developers all ran away and started Mozilla . Mozilla went along for a bit then they stopped and made Firefox and Thunderbird instead .
And lately Seamonkey too .

Netscape got bought by AOL so really doesn't count anymore .

I stuck with Mozilla .

Theres various others too although quite a few really use IE and are just a skin .

Mozilla (and its children) are true options, Opera is too but I didn't like its layout .

For email theres Eudora too, basic, small and no HTML .

493106 2006-10-22 07:00:00 ...

I personally use Firefox and Outlook as I have no problem with OE but IE is just too much of a let down to use (Dunno if it's just me but doing a scan after a day of IE surfing brings in heaps of adware while the same surfing in FF brings nothing).

Maybe, to be more precise, IE brings heaps of adware, while FF brings NOT SO MUCH. :D It's misleading to say it brings NOTHING.

it does bring very little, especially with various extensions and add-ons, plus spybot immunization lol...

really just smart surfing is the best way to avoid the majority of adware

493108 2006-10-22 17:33:00 To clarify some comments above, Mozilla is a browser of its own name. It incorporates an excellent email client. Used to be called messenger, now doesn't seem to have a name, but is referred to as Mozilla Messenger or Mail.

Mozilla is not Firefox or Netscape - both of which are based on it's engine.

Netscape Communicator isn't an email client - it's an earlier generation browser/email package.

Eudora free version has ads, but they can be manually omitted so they don't show.

493109 2006-10-24 23:04:00 And to clarify further, the Mozilla browser suite development has been effectively halted and has been picked up by another group and rebadged as SeaMonkey.

I find SeaMonkey to be a lot more stable & more configurable than Firefox out of the box, and only needs a minimum of plugins to be useful.

Probably IE7. I am a cowardly conservative type. I would like to experiment with some of the others. Metla is working on my computer this evening. I will talk to him when he brings it back. Thanks for asking. PJ

493112 2006-10-26 08:09:00 There are some good things in Outlook that OE hasnt got .

ie: The calendar, appts . And u can add photos to the contacts in Outlook .

I dont think u can in OE . And if u save contacts to an Ipod, it will also add the photo/s . (If its a video, and most probably a Photo Ipod) . And maybe others .

Thats the only thing I use Outlook for, once I pay my bills, I put them in the calendar, and then save the entries in icalendar format .

A format Ipods understand .

So, I can save them to my Ipod .

Since I shred the bills once theyre paid . but I still have a record of paying the bill/s .

Actually I dont use OE or Outlook that much . If I have to send something I use Poptray's new email option, and type it up then send it (altho that still uses OE to send emails) .
