It appears to be a free download that will remove your malware/virus.

Actually looks like malware that will download more rubbish.

Did you do a search to confirm this, or is it only your 'hunch'?
I ask this because I also had a suspicion that it could be malware, but Googling found nothing except confirmation of a legit company.

494829 2006-10-27 14:59:00 Well, I'm not entirely sure how it happened, but I filed through my getright history and found a file named powercodec.exe. In a fit of stupidity I ran it, not knowing where it came from, just assuming that it was something I wanted.

Bad idea.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who's made this screw-up, so has anybody else had any luck removing this softare once installed? Ad-aware doesn't spot it, AVG hasn't a clue, and I don't like shelling out cash.

I spent about half an hour getting acquainted with my registry in an attempt to kill this thing off, to no avail, so if anything anybody knows of anything that can remove this crap, I'm actually willing to pay money for the software.

And the first person to suggest re-formatting my hard-drive gets a bullet. Not my style.

494831 2006-10-27 19:28:00 Try visiting any anti virus site. Don't buy anything, but if they are blocked, you have a virus. pcuser42 (130)

494833 2006-10-27 22:42:00 Use something like Spybot, Adaware. See if they can pick it up and remove it.

And see if it adds anything to add/remove programs. If it does uninstall it.
