| 493978 | 2006-10-25 09:24:00 | just got a new DVD drive today installed it and booted up the computer and it came up with a message saying 1st primary IDE drive not recognized I went in system setup and it says primary slave [not recognized] I have checked the connections. in my computer there is no DVD drive. its a gigabyte DVD drive and the computer is a warehouse dell running windows XP home edition. help apprecaited |

| 493979 | 2006-10-25 18:24:00 | Check the jumpers. Normally you have your hard drive in IDE primary slot and DVD in secondary slot. With a separate cable each. In which case both drives should have their jumper on master. If you have both drives on the one cable and IDE slot, then the DVD is normally made to be the slave with the jumper and the hard drive master. Make sure the BIOS is happy and can see both drives properly before even going into WIndows. |
