2006-11-09 18:52:00 | Amazing, amazing, at 7.30am today, speed both national and international seem to be back to what I was getting on the Adventure plan. Downloading a large audio file from the US , same place as in my posting above came down at 166-230 kbytes/sec. This is the fastest ever on Go Large, maybe Telecom have fixed things? However one swallow does not a summer make, so let's see if these speeds continue. {When I posted above about the State University Of New York, my brain must have been completely addled, of course the particular campus I had in mind is located at Stoneybrook, Long Island} [Plug, for all you want to know about Bix Beiderbecke, his life ,times, and music, visit the Bixography web site: ms.cc.sunysb.edu ]

2006-11-09 20:37:00 | hey there, I've got a question, how does one find out if they're in the bad pool or not? I mean i'm constantly getting only 2.5kb/sec~>30kb/sec all the time at any given day or time yet router connect rates fluctuate from 2.4mbit-3.55mbit. my IP has always been 125.x.x.x and only once been 222.x.x.x It seems that i've actually gone down in speed, i used to connect at 4288 but now its all over the place. stupid Xtra :( <sidenote> can we hassle them? ;) </sidenote>

2006-11-09 21:32:00 | Here's a modified version of a message I sent to Telecom this morning: Telecom are about to lose my custom for broadband (well, ADSL, which is something quite different) and for my home telephone. If you care about why, read on. When I contacted your telephone help desk regarding several losses of Internet connection and the excruciating slowness of my unleashed Go Large plan, I was informed that it was not Xtras fault. There must be something wrong at my end and other obfuscation. When I persisted and made it clear that I was not ignorant of IT matters, the Helpdesk actually became moderately helpful and admitted that there were congestion problems. When I sent email feedback to Xtra I got the standard boiler-plate reply informing me that you, as the service provider, have no control over the sites Im downloading from. It wasnt your fault. Try our speedometer, you said, jump through hoops. Your speedometer shows excellent speed. No other speedometers do how strange. But my download speed was still 3 4 times dial-up speed at best. Any time, day or night, weekday or weekend, local or overseas. To cut a long story short, after an exchange of several emails I was given a special deal, for me alone, mustnt tell anyone! to switch from Go Large to the Pro 15GB plan at no extra cost for a month. I am not too confident it will make any improvements for you, however Said your emailer. Oh no? It certainly didnt make any difference while I was still connected via IP 125.xxx.xxx.xxx, as I expected. But as soon as I rebooted my system and my dynamic IP was removed from that leechers pool I immediately had at least a 20 fold increase in download speed. Surprise, surprise. I have now arranged a switch to TelstraClear for Internet services and phone services. If I didnt have to buy two new Vodaphone compatible phones Id change my mobiles too. Not because the Go Large service is broken, Id have been prepared to wait a few weeks to see if you fixed it. No, its because Telecoms staff have, surely under instruction from on high, dissembled and misled. I hesitate to use the word lie, but youve come vanishingly close. Following the example of their leaders past economy with the truth. All I wanted was an open admission of what was wrong, which customers it affected, what was being done, and when. Even on TV1, when the subject belatedly reached the news last week your representative Kevin Bowler said: "We would think more than half are getting increased speeds at this stage." We would think! What does that mean? Not they are getting increased speeds, we would think that they are. Then again maybe we would not. Id have liked to have thought that I was too. I did not want to do this, I would rather support a New Zealand company than an Australian one, but there are limits to my tolerance of being treated with contempt. This morning I have two people asking for advice on high speed Internet service providers. What should I tell them?

2006-11-09 21:50:00 | Hey guys i have specifically joined these forums just to ***** on this thread. It seems that im in good company in regards to the my excruciating and painfully slow internet. I have read every single post right from the start, took a bit of time but was good. Just like to say ive done pretty much everything possible when it comes to complaining besides asking for a better plan! Ive called help desk about .. 10 times in the past two weeks, only once ever being helpful was this indian chick (she admitted to be new to the job) and she was a bit flirty..but enough of that, she told me that shes got the "advance team" onto my case and they will mointor my line or some ****. anyways yesterday i called up cause it was BEYOND slow. the previous week i was getting 200kbs down on Prison break torrents and about 50-100kbs on other torrents ... now torrents range from about 0.1kb to about 5kb max (i realize some guy said its stupid comparing torrents to speed but i thought it sounded rather relevant when there was such a difference) and international HTTP downloads are exactly the same. Anyways got through the helpdesk after 15minutes of being on hold and i get this [edit] called dave... i explained my case and he was incredibly balytant, he used the anaolgy of "if u had a porsche and it was very fast...you cant go fast if theres heaps of traffic on the motorway" (yeah get [edit] that doesnt help me) He then proceeds to say "well why dont you become an engineer and figure out our problems for us" at that time i was thinking to my self.. if you were infront of me id [edited]. i was very disgruntled and wanted to complain, cept they had no complain help line... the same dude sent me and email to moinitor my speed over 3 days and send it back to the help desk...*** is that going to do, they going to reply with a stupid generated email saying "we are working on this problem, blah blah" [edit] TELECOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RAGE!!! [edit: please mind your language. Those sorts of words and comments are not necessary. You have received an infraction for this. Not a good start for a new member ... - Jen (Moderator)]

2006-11-09 23:01:00 | turning_point, If you go to this website: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ you will discover that your "unleashed" IP address is 125.xxx.xxx.xxx. As far as I can ascertain, everyone on Go Large is on that particular IP network. Nothing's going to change in the immediate future unless you change plans or change your ISP. When I changed to Pro, my dynamic IP address changed to 2xx.xxx.xxx.xxx and everything's sweet. But don't get mad with Telecom, it's all YOUR fault! :o)

2006-11-09 23:33:00 | Hi all, further to some of my posts earlier. Telecom Technology Managers have confirmed to me that the Go Large plan wont work with their PON/Remote Office network, and even though my plan has changed and you cant change twice in one billing period, they would change it for me. I decieded to go Pro 15Gb as the 128Kb upload is no good for multiple RDP clients for support, nor is it anygood for gaming. I feel sorry for people who have moved from their 5GB to unlimited and now wish to go back...cause you cant.....It's a Telecom gotya!
