494343 2006-10-27 06:42:00 Well. These days I don't look at laptops cos I got sick of them, I have outgrown their buzz factor. If ya don't need portability get a PC, they are slow and expensive and some are not portable, like over 2kg, haha. Or else get the compromise ones a bit slower and still quite thin or the ultra portables without a drive. I think a student can use a PC, all it sits on ya desk and ya may travel home 2x a yr. Backup to disc and throw the computer to storage. Take back at end of studies :D

For laptops I find out about the manufacturer you like to get. Get a few and look at their models. Initially find out how much ya wanna spend. Ask friends and family, pref ask a local computer forums that has more ready info. You have to find out what ya like and what usage. Power machine vs a clerical business laptop are gonna be v different.

Pref I like IBM given the support but they are a bit on the pricey side and they are not particuarly power machines, but all I used to do is just MS Office that's all. They are also v durable. I like the ultra portable series at my uni but I think I preferred a PC now looking back. Its ok for travel but I tend to like to travel v v light aka 4kg checked cargo so no laptop for me.

494346 2006-10-27 22:36:00 I'm looking for a laptop in NZ, I can finally afford one, and I want to get a good one. I travel heaps between Australia, NZ and Japan. I do graphic design work using photoshop and I also love to play Day of Defeat Source, most Half Life source games, and Company of Heroes. So I'm looking for a powerful notebook that can handle all of that pressure. I'm totally clueless when it comes to portable graphics cards! Any suggestions for what kind of notebook and where I should get it? Thanks!

PS sorry if this is hi-jacking?!

Are you the same member as CorbinH in the USA?
If so, why have you restarted as a new member?
If not, why choose such a similar username? It can be confusing?
