494181 2006-11-01 07:55:00 im back into the naughty pool with the 125.xxx.xxx
i think so is everyone

telecom seriously needs to get this sorted out

Right, they do indeed, it has been 5 days now since we were supposed to have blazing internet. It is pathetic that they didn't get it right first time. It is even more pathetic that they have not yet publicly acknowledged they have a serious problem.

Here is an extract from an email I received from them today in response to my complaints:

"I have escalated your issue to our broadband technical support team. They have the diagnostic tools to investigate your issue and provide the necessary support to help resolve your issue. As this is a new product to the market we are receiving a large number of emails from our customers. Please note it make take up to 7 working days for a response from our broadband technical support team."

This is why I say they are a bunch of no-hopers.

It isn't my issue, which they repeat 3 times, it is their problem, and their email suggests that they are unaware that it is affecting many if not all, on the Go Large plan, though they do admit to receiving many emails.

Just taking a speed test using New Zealand sites doesn't give the true picture, it is the international connections that are down the tubes.

494183 2006-11-01 16:47:00 Ihug have upgraded me. I connection to the exchange at 7.1Mbit/s.

At 5:30 in the morning I get 6072 d/l and 132 u/l which is fine - but I have done the same test during the day and might only get 1500 d/l!!!

Telecom are just trying to rape everyones customers, so I am gonna hang in with Ihug for a while - even if their new plan does sux!

494184 2006-11-02 02:32:00 That was why I linked to the Knoppix 5.0.1 DVD torrent earlier (a lot earlier) in this thread - yes, it's a public tracker, but it's also one with consistantly high performance and a lot of seeders; so should be an excellent test of bantwidth. On that torrent, I typically get as fast as my line can handle (~2.23Mbits/sec).

I appreciate what you are saying, and yep that torrent was fast. Got it up to nearly 900KB/s before I terminated it (cable). This also looks like a legal torrent?

Its more the pirate public trackers I was referring to where most users limit there speeds to something like 3KB/s therefor even 500 seeders with 400 lechers can still be very slow. These sites are usually readily found using Google.

I was not specifically referring to you, just used your post to quote from, there are also many other quoting torrent speeds not only in this thread, with no indication of source which is the pointless part.

I am indeed, despite powering down the modem several times today to get a new IP.

To boot, at the moment at Xtras' site:
www.jetstreamgames.co.nz

I'm only getting 1372Kbps; about 15 minutes ago it was only 700Kbps odd.

I've sent another email to Xtra, just to be a persistent pain in their backsides.

Edit: And at Speakeasy:
www.speakeasy.net

I'm getting only 232Kbps with the New York server, which is only 4x dial up speed.

494188 2006-11-02 07:42:00 If I am not mistaken you are meant to be in the 125 range ip.

494189 2006-11-02 07:53:00 For me, it is a total joke. I used to get about 1915Kbps, but now since the "taps have been opened and i've been 'upgraded" to 'Go large', i have the slowest transfer rate i have ever had in 7 years of broadband! I have been on to xtra and just get the total run around. I have neighbours who have exactly the same problem as me. All was fine until last saturday. Bugger Clear and who ever it was that made telecom open the taps in the first place! Telecom must have known that there were going to be problems and there sure as hell are. I am in New Plymouth by the way. I was in Takapuna on Sunday, and a friend's connection was the same as mine, 700 - 900 Kbps.
Total crap, wish it was possible to turn back the clock to before all this started. In the evenings now, it's so bloody slow i just give up. I hope there is some sort of compensation for this, after all, we are paying for a service that we are simply not getting. Look at this from a couple of minutes ago
Last Result:
Download Speed: 890 kbps (111.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 107 kbps (13.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
It's just a bloody joke and I have only downloaded an average of 200 megs per day so haven't been put in the naughty boys pool!

494190 2006-11-02 07:58:00 So what is everyone going to do about Xtra's unleashed problems? Like many others, I was on Adventurer getting average dl of 2,000kbps and 3,300kbps off peak with which I was generally satisfied. However, lured by 7,600kbps and $10 less per month I opted for the change - and regretted it ever since. I now grind along at 300 to 400kbps with perhaps max double that at best off peak. Is the problem one that can be resolved? Was it a con trick? Do we stop paying until Telecom perform reasonably under the contracts we all have with them? Its a week now since Telecom unleashed this havoc which leads me to think that if it could have been solved it would have been solved by now - which leaves me with a strong feeling of having been misled.
