494348 2006-10-25 22:22:00 I have a PC running Windows XP SP2. I have just purchased a 56k V.92 voice modem from DSE in order to use my PC as a telephone answer machine. The drivers loaded OK and i installed the Telephone answer machine software that came with the modem. No problems so far, the modem answers OK plays the new greeting and records the calls OK. The only problem im having is that when the person hangs up the modem records the disconnect tone (a series of half second beeps) and it keeps doing it, it wont hang up. I still hear these beeps even if the modem is taken out of the equation. The way around this is to set the modem to hang up after a period of time, i.e the longest message it will record at the moment is 1 minute. I spoke to Telstra Clear and they are not sure if this is a problem or not???
So i have 2 questions really, should the modem hang up as soon as it hears these beeps?? Or is there a fault on the line, should these beeps be present when the 3rd party has hung up, or should the line clear?

494349 2006-10-26 04:34:00 Remote Hang-up Detection

Many modems don't provide effective remote hangup detection. That is, when your modem and a remote device are connected in a call, and then the remote device hangs up, your program will not be informed of this via the OnDisconnected event. Some applications may be able to overcome this situation with a timeout or other exception-handling routine based on detecting fast busy, but this is not a robust approach and may prevent you from using modems that have this deficiency.

So you just might have to use the timeout function.
