495095 2006-10-30 03:27:00 Ok I have the abovementioned wireless ADSL firewall/router. Problem is I can't get it to connect to the Internet at all. I've tried just about everything I know but still no luck. I;ve set it up like my old router (same settings that is) but still no joy.

I've used a crossover cable and a normal patch cable (both allow me to connect to the router) but no Internet.

One thing I have noticed is that the RJ11 (telephone) cable which came with the 3Com unit has 4 wires whereas the one I was using before has 2 wires only (these are visible at the end connectors)

Which one of these should I be using? I've tried both but still no luck.

Can anyone give me a had with this?

cheers

495097 2006-10-30 10:01:00 Hi Chief,

Dom you have the DSL status line going on the router, are you with xtra, the username is case sensitive. Are the VCI/VPI correct at 0/100? Are you sure the router isnt authenticated and that your gateway is incorrect on your client?
Are client getting ip address thru dhcp on router?

Inst there like multiple accounts you can have with that unit?

495098 2006-10-30 19:27:00 Hi Chief,
Are the VCI/VPI correct at 0/100?

Once I changed this from 0/38 to 0/100, instant connection. Thanks Sol, you're a legend mate.

Now to surf the net to find settings for the Firewall.

495100 2006-10-31 00:21:00 Ok now that everything is running pretty smoothly, I have one further issue that needs to be resolved.

The network is running fine, wired and wireless.
This is what I have:

1) Desktop PC connected to the 3Com Firewall/router via an ethernet cable.
2) Laptop connected to the 3Com firewall/router via wireless (11g).

The only thing that I haven't been able to do is "see" the desktop PC using the laptop, it works fine the other way around.

I've run the Home Network Wizard on both desktop PC and laptop but still can't view the desktop PC's shared folders using the laptop.

Any ideas.

cheers
