| 494975 | 2006-10-26 22:49:00 | Hi Team I am testing an analytical machine from the US and have been printing resuts direct to an HP6L laser via the parallel port . I have no access to the printer drivers or any other aspect of the machine operation as it has an embedded and proprietary program . From that perspective it is a black box with a parallel port that outputs direct to the printer . The 6L had been losing resolution for some time (had it checked and it was something in the works dying and too costly to repair) so it was semi-retired but I retrieved it from my back room for this job . Unfortunately, with about 100 prints to go, it has now completely lost all resolution (printing only large areas of black) which means I can't print text anymore . I hooked up the HP1200 from my office, which I understood to be able to print from DOS and tried that, but I am getting no output to the printer . The machine sends but the printer doesn't respond . Unfortunately there are no user-configurable switches or anything like that on the printer, and definitely no controls at the machine end so I am in a little strife . Can anybody tell me if the HP6L and HP1200 should offer the same print from DOS functionality? If I can't get it going I'll have to go looking for a 6L in working order to buy, in fact if anybody in Auckland has one that they could loan me, it would be returned in 14 days with a new HP toner cartridge (I'd fitted a new one only a couple of weeks before the resolution started to fail) . Any advice on the HP1200's DOS capability would be appreciated, I can't find the manual, the help files were no help, and Google was not my friend today . PM me if you can help on the loan/purchase printer front . Cheers Billy 8-{) :( |

| 494978 | 2006-10-30 02:04:00 | Nah . . . . . The HP1200 obviously doesn't have the DOS driver software required . It was completely non-responsive My need was great so I bought an HP5L off Trademe for $12 in an auction that was conveniently closing in a few hours . Collected it this morning, then swapped my new HP toner cartridge for the not-so-stellar but working "compatible" that was in residence and away it went, good as . Cheers Billy 8-{) |
