| 494923 | 2006-10-26 19:30:00 | My computer has been slowly dying and my best guess is that the 12 month old SATA drive could be in trouble. It has been a long and windy path but here are the highlights. The computer has been going very slow when opening up My Computer and Exploring drives (C to F) I had a lot of trouble after installing Rise of Nations and the computer wanted to do a disk check on start up. This disk check took forever and found problems with RON files in the Recycle Bin despite the fact I had emptied the Bin. My response to this was to reformat D drive where RON had been installed The computer now wants to check C drive on start up but locks up at 0% complete If I go the My Computer/ Explorer and go to Explore E drive I get a blue screen with the words "A problem has been detected and Windows is shutting down. A Process or thread critical to systems operation has unexpectedly exited.................................Beginning Physical memory dump" The computer then reboots after this but locks up just after finding the IDE drives. If I turn the machine off (as opposed to restarting) and count to 10 before turning it back on it will reboot OK. If I keep away from exploring drives the machine seems to run OK. I am running an Athalon 3500 with 1 gig of ram. OS is Windows XP professional with SP2 installed and all the various updates installed as well. Any bright ideas?? |
