you may be right about a virus because the last few times I managed to boot up the Zone Alarm antivirus was turned off .

At thsi stage teh computer wont go past the windows start up page so I will put in an old hard drive with Win 98 and reformat the SATA drive . One thing I do now is to use FAT32 on any C drive so Windws 98 works .

Thanks for the feedback guys I will let you know what I find out

495214 2006-11-01 08:50:00 WARNING! WARNING!
Looks like your computer needs some maintainence work.
First? If you have anti-virus software, then skip to anti-spyware(I use paid version anti-spyware so it'll be very different from free version not McAfee, or crappy Counter Spy etc.) checking time.
Do you use Edonkey, P2P software etc.? Those are spywares scanned by my BitDefender V10.
Downloading anything? Please Defrag your HDD.
Watch web pages with too much pictures? Clean your internet temporary files.

PS I've been in this situation before and none of PressF1 members can help so?
:p Help yourself fixing up the computer.

Skip it all and format....:badpc:
pctek (84)
495216 2006-11-02 03:47:00 I would say you have bad memory or motherboard, regardless of what nasty spyware / viruses you have lurking around the file system .
Use Memtest (download and make floppy boot disk) and boot to the floppy drive - leave the test running for at least 20 minutes, if you have 2 x memory modules remove one and test individually (take anti-static percautions when doing this) . If they pass all tests with no errors you probably have a bung motherboard . If its an ECS or Gigabyte I wouldn't be suprised (heh :-) .

Also check this link for Windows Stop Errors and possible solutions:

adapter (11365)
495217 2006-11-02 09:26:00 Pedal slammer can you be more specific please? I do use Zone ALarm and AVG antivirus. I also keep the temp internet files culled and I don't think that the hard drive is that badly fragmented.

PCtek I kinda agree with you but why do you say reformat?? Is there something specific in the Hijack log??

Adapter I think I agree with you. The network went flakey a few weeks (months?) ago and the shop said that they couldn't find anything wrong. The floppy drive also does not work (I have tried two so far). The USB ports seem to come and go and the only thing that covers all this sorta stuff is the motherboard. The MB is a Gigabyte and a friend with an identical board and very simialr setup had all sorts of problems which culminated in a new motherboard (and three new DVD players).

at any rate thanks for the feedback
