495253 2006-10-30 18:45:00 Just do it normally, as if the 'pressf1' part was www. I'm not sure if it will work or not though. :) pcuser42 (130)

495255 2006-10-31 01:08:00 If you put the " part in, it won't work. It can't work. The protocol bit (before the "//"" target="_blank">" part in, it won't work. It can't work. The protocol bit (before the ") makes that a URL, not an address. The hosts file is part of the TCP/IP transport system, which handles packets, and knows about addresses. URLs are not interchangeable with IP addresses or "fully qualified domain names".

The "www" host name in some web site names is not a protocol indicator. It is just a name for a particular host in a domain. A host
called www.fred.com could be the fred.com domain's FTP server. The name has no direct relationship with what services a host supplies. Many web sites have some variant of 'WWW" as the host name. It is not necessary, and it's certainly not compulsory. If you add it when the name is complete without it, you are entering a wrong address. You must use only names which are registered in the DNS system.

Try pinging or Traceroute the site you want & you should be able to get the ip address from that.

Hope this helps :)

Open the Command Prompt, type in ping www.sitename.com - it'll show you the IP.
