495039 2006-10-27 21:13:00 I have a computer running a Athlon XP 2500+ chip, aida says its sitting on 66-67'C, is this healthy? i've heard that the early athlons run a bit hot?. The room temp is roughly 18-20'C i installed one 120mm fan blowing into the case from the front and two 80mm fans blowing out of the case from the back, the fans havn't made a difference to the temp of the cpu, no obvious problems with performance. is this a normal temperature? 495040 2006-10-27 21:16:00 oops sorry, posted it twice Jimmy D (2061)
495041 2006-10-27 21:48:00 depending on how its measure its sounds roughly right. mayby a tad warm or simply error in whatever prog is reading the temp.

its the earlier tbirds that ran hot. the atho XP's ran a bit cooler.

whats the temp under load?

495042 2006-10-27 21:53:00 dunno will have to try, whats something that's labour intensive i could try out on it? Jimmy D (2061)
495043 2006-10-27 23:01:00 I have my CPU alarm set at 49C, and shutdown at 51C....although I use the Fahrenheit equivalents here in the US...but the numbers crunch the same. SurferJoe46 (51)
495044 2006-10-27 23:26:00 There are programs that give the CPU a good workout but I have forgotten what they are called.

Try doing a virus scan.

495045 2006-10-27 23:45:00 ok i tried a virus scan and walked away, the temp jumped upto 68'C. when i cam back there was a blue screen of death saying that windows had shutdown because there was an attempt to write to read only memory... does that have anythign to do with temperature? overheating? lol Jimmy D (2061)
495046 2006-10-27 23:50:00 ok i restarted and as it was logging into windows it restarted itself. i looked in the bios and the temp is up to 69'C, is the threashhold 70'C? i think its too hot, how can i make it cooler? Jimmy D (2061)
495047 2006-10-28 00:21:00 68'C is way too hot for that CPU, even with the stock cooler it shouldn't be hotter than 45'C idle. If the case has sufficent airflow then either the HSF isnt mounted correctly or your software is reporting the temp incorrectly. Pete O'Neil (6584)
495048 2006-10-28 01:00:00 ok, so i'll take the heat stink off, re-apply the watchamajigit paste and reseat it and see what happens Jimmy D (2061)
