| 494958 | 2006-10-26 21:31:00 | Refomatted and partition my hard drive. I allocated some gigs for linux, FAT32 while the two other paritions are NTFS. I havn't yet installed unbuntu on the small parition yet, would it erase any data on the other partitions? Cheers |

| 494959 | 2006-10-26 21:40:00 | You just need to select which partition you want Linux installed onto. You have to be careful and double-check the selection is correct otherwise you could lose data. Linux also refers to the partitions differently to Windows. Primary master is hda, primary slave is hdb, secondary master is hdc and so on. The first partition on the drive is 1, the second is 2 etc. For example, Windows installed to drive "C" on a primary master is equivalent to hda1 and your CD/DVD drive on a secondary master is hdc Linux will format the partition itself with a native Linux filesystem so pre-formatting it as FAT32 is a waste of time. How much space are you allowing for Linux? |

| 494960 | 2006-10-27 03:20:00 | Installed on a 4gb partition with 1.5gb swap. Loads fine and everything. However, i hate the hassles with linux. Drivers drive me crazy. I have a wireless PCI card, found some drivers but any kind of resource talks in a techy language so I cant figure out anything. Without access to the net through the wireless card i have to use a computer in another room to find help. :angry Compatibility is the one thing with linux (Ubuntu) that drives me crazy. |
