496090 2006-11-02 22:01:00 Have been frequently performing my broadband speed tests as I'm not getting the 'MAX' speed. I've changed to 'Go Large Plan' . Phoned Xtra's helpdesk and the tech told me to perform 3 speed test for 3 days using both my own user name and user@jetstreamgames.co.nz and let them know the test results so that they can find out why I am not getting the max speed.

Interestingly, I found that when using NZDSL the result is slower than using Xtra's speed tests.

When I changed to user@jetstreamgames.co.nz , I am able to get xtremely highspeed, is this the so-called MAX speed? I can still use this login name to surf the Internet. Can I just login to this jetstreamgames and enjoy the highspeed Internet?

Cheers

I have to agree, I find most of these speed tests give you only a ballpark figure, with International speed tests like "Speakeasy" being nearly completely useless.

Best way to test, is real world downloading from a known fast source.

.

No, the tech asked me to change my log in user at my ADSL router to test the speed: 1 with my own username.xadsl@xtra.co.nz and another test using user@jetstreamgames.co.nz . I'll have to perform the test 3 times a day for 3 days and send back the test results to them. Don't really know what for. He also checked and confirmed that my line is OK, meaning, I should get the Max speed! BUT, I am NOT getting it.

496093 2006-11-02 23:02:00 I C what you mean now .

By the way, what do you define as "Max" speed?

The term "Max" varies wildly from connection to connection depending on things like distance from exchange etc .

496095 2006-11-03 01:06:00 What happened to your free adsl?

Sadly, it has gone about two weeks ago when I had a phone line problem. They rectified my phone line and at the same time, 'rectified' my ADSL connection. :(

I was enjoying something like 6 - 8 MB fast Internet for many months. :)

496096 2006-11-03 01:24:00 Anyway, the good news is: I'll be having my FREE broadband for another year as I won myself 1 yrs broadband in the 'Pass the parcel' game! :) bk T (215)

Not really ALL the goodies, as can be seen right now, I don't (and probably will not) enjoy the highspeed Internet as you guys do :(

Any idea why Xtra's speed test is so much higher than NZDSL's speed test?

Don't know. But I get the reverse situation. Low speed with the Xtra one and better (twice) with NZADSL test
