| 496015 | 2006-11-02 08:41:00 | My 6 year old Genius scanner has suddenly stopped functioning. I'm pretty certain it's the power adaptor. Hard to understand why it should suddenly fail - it never got much use. But anyway, where can I get a replacement? Thanks. |

| 496017 | 2006-11-02 23:31:00 | I agree PJ, DSE and Jaycar both stock "universal" adapters so you can repower just about anything . I'd get them to put a meter on the output of your old one first though Greg, they do die and usually they are left plugged in and powered up for years on end, even if the device isn't being used . All of this reminds me, in a "dummy of the year" episode a few weeks back, I noticed that my DSL modem had gone off line and the lights were out . A quick check showed no power from the adapter, so, in a mighty leap of stupidity, I went straight to the power point (one of two 4-way wall plates that power all essentials in my office other than the computers, which are on UPSs) and found no power there either . After messing around for an hour or so working out why there was no power, and trying to remember how I routed the cables inside the wall when I installed the wiring, I remembered that I have a master switch on the wall that turns off all power to those points . I turn it off last thing each night and on again first thing in the morning so it is pretty easy to remember it! Yep, I'd turned it off while doing something earlier and forgot to turn it on again . :blush: Colour me stooooopid . Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 496018 | 2006-11-03 00:21:00 | In the mess of cables behind a friend's computer desk, I checked the wall outlet, it had power, the printer did not. When the desk was hauled out, and the mess unraveled somewhat, one of the splitter / power strip cords was plugged into itself. Of course, "no-one has been near there for ages", so it MUST have been a gremlin. My own scanner supply expired with sound effects that aided a quick diagnosis, (terminal), so a quick fix was to supply it from the PC 12v supply. It is only a temporary work-around, so is probably approaching it's use-by date. (3 years is temporary isn't it?) |
