495581 2006-10-31 08:22:00 Hi, Just been trying to give my old HP pavilion 6618 some more RAM, after replacing the old 64mb with another 256, already has 256 in the other slot, i was after 512 in total but will not start windows and message- BOIS is not ACPI compiant, also suggests pressing f7 during text mode set up(whatever that is?) to turn off ACPI, Any ideas? Cheers. carlos (11373)

Hit F5 at the 'press F2 to install...' prompt, and keep hitting it - you will get an option for various kernel images. Choose 'Standard PC', then continue with the installation. If it still doesn't work, use the '486' one.
