495642 2006-11-02 05:40:00 Really? I am a home business nad have shifted to Ihugs phone service as its miles cheaper than Telecom.
How do you get a better deal from Telecom?

I suppose it depends on how you use your phone. I don't do a lot of toll calls and when I do it is normally only for a few minutes.

Ihug
$40/month + $20 plan + Voice mail $7 + Fax $4 + Wire & Main $2.25 = $73.25 every month + cell calls @ 55c/min.

Telecom
Home Business Anytime $44.94 + Voicemail $7 + Fax $2.50 + wire & main $2.53 = $56.97 + cell calls @ 39c/min. Difference between the two $16.28

I have to pay 14c/min for tolls capped at $2 but the $16.28 difference goes along way with me. As I do mainly short toll calls I use my cell phone as it is cheaper. I am on a corporate plan @ $34/month with calls @ 34c/min to most people and down to 15c/min for others.

So for me when it comes to the landline Telecom are cheaper. But of course if you use your landline alot then you would easily use the $16.28 and Ihug would be cheaper.

495643 2006-11-02 05:43:00 After reading my post I will add that the cell is used to other cells which I ring a lot. If it is to a landline and I'm close to the home phone then I will use it, otherwise it's the cell phone that gets used. berryb (99)
495644 2006-11-02 06:15:00 By all means ring ihug if you have a spare 1-2 hours on your hand for someone to pick up the phone, I have just left them and just given up contacting them by phone and now only e-mails. jd74 (10834)
495645 2006-11-02 20:46:00 Well no reply on the e-mail front. Guess their e-mail server issues have got the best of them or they just don't read them at all even though it was suppose to go to accounts and they say to contact them that way from their web site.

Anyhow decided to ring and did so nice and early to get out of the queue. Only spent 4 minutes waiting for a human to talk to. Then explained what had happened and why I was not happy. Was put on hold listening to some really crappy music for about 3 minutes and when the person came back she said I would be credited the excess data usage for that month.

It is a good outcome but don't think it should have happened in the first place and also think that if they have a web site to post comments to them they should read and reply to them and also e-mails. They are a business after all.

So back to my topic be aware if you are changing plans and your usage is above what your new plan is. Check it very closely.

But you have a flat rate of $20 for the toll calls in there.
So thats not strictly accurate. Your Telecom tolls but not be much but you haven't factored it in...even if it only amounts to a total of $10 or so a month.

Yes, I agree with the cell phone calls bit - personally I rarely ring them...so ihug suits me.
Also down here everything is a toll call - ringing Gore or Invercargill is, OK, not much of one, but its still a toll call.

Kill the wiring and maintenance fee.
How often would you need them to fix cabling or a jackpoint? Times that cost by 10 years or so....its not worth it.

About 5 days ago, any call after 5pm when I get home from work took for ever.
