I may well get howled down in this one, but I recently came to the conclusion that it is not always compatibility or otherwise with the dvd writer that is always the issue. :horrified

The reason I say this is that although I consider Verbatim to be the best and have never had a problem with Verbatim dvd's, a day or two ago I was using Acronis True Image to make a boot disc. Now when I tried the first Verbatim dvd I got the message from Acronis that the disc was not suitable. Similarly with the second and third Verbatim dvd's. At that stage I thought that it must be a bug in Acronis. In desperation I tried a Princo dvd (which I usually only use for music) and lo and behold - it worked !!

It seems that on that occasion it was not a mismatch with the dvd writer but instead between the program and the type of dvd. :2cents:

Be very interested in anyone's thoughts on this !

495598 2006-11-01 09:00:00 I always thought that programs used standard commands to the writer and it was up to the DVD writer to deal with the disk. I've been using ImgBurn, that does log the messages to and from the writer. PaulD (232)
495599 2006-11-01 09:49:00 I have an Acer Aspire SA80 (brand spankers) with an

HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA 4164B DVD Writer Drive.

Whatever that means.

SKC 8x DVD-R media will NOT work. Is there anything I can do about this? Or am I stuck with the 50 pack that I just forked out for? Wah-wah.....

However, everything else works fine including those blank printable ones from the dodgy asian computer shop and Transonic ones from The Warehouse.

495600 2006-11-01 19:15:00 Camo, if there is newer firmware available you can try that. It usually adds compatibility with new media.

My NEC 3520 & Pioneer 111D work great with Verbatims and Tayo Yuden.
The only duds i've had were with some inkjet printable Imations - still got most of the 50 stack.

Thats why i started the thread. I brought a 50 pack of cheap Excel branded disks and they won't work. I guess it's my own fault for being cheap:groan:
