495480 2006-10-31 07:10:00 Setting up an old PC with 80 GB Seagate HDDD. It orginallly has 3 partitions, C: (10 GB), D: (30GB), & E: (40 GB).

I think the C: with only 10 GB for Windows XP is a little too tight, I deleted both C: and D: and keep E: as there are some important data stored. But after deleting C: and D: , XP set up was still showing two unpartitioned spaces of 10 GB and 30 GB , and of course, the existing E: of 40 GB.

Why is this so and how do I merge C: and D: so that I can have a large C: for my OS?

Cheers

How did u delete C and D?

I did a 'Clean' Install of XP. Went through all the procedures using the install CD. I may have to delete E: as well before I can merge them and re partition it? But there are important data stored in E: :(

how much data? just burn it to a couple of DVDRWs if possible, or backup on another hard disk (a mate's laptop perhaps?).

you will have to completely reformat if you get windows to do it
