| 496206 | 2006-11-03 10:04:00 | Hi all, I have a Pentium 4 2.4GHz computer using Windows XP SP2. When i try to shutdown my computer after Start>Turn of computer and turn off...the computer(or windows) shuts down but the CPU is still powered on. (STRANGE)...i have not changed any settings. I have to manually hold on the power button on the CPU to turn it off. I remember doing that on old CPU's but that was very long time ago for Pentium I and II. I thought all the computers with Pentium III or later were supposed to automatically shutdown or power off. Well i thought so??? Well anyway, i would like to know if i can do that to my computer above? Any settings in bios or in windows? Thanks all.. |

| 496208 | 2006-11-04 00:33:00 | A couple of things to try... 1) open the Power Options applet in Control Panel. If there is an APM tab, make sure the Enable Advanced Power Management Support box is checked. 2) right-click on the My Computer icon, click Properties | Hardware | Device Manager | View. Check the box labeled Show Hidden Devices. If its available on your computer, there will be a red X on the APM/NT Legacy Node. Try enabling it and see if this resolves the powerdown problem. |

| 496213 | 2006-11-04 04:19:00 | <Windows Key> then "U" and then "U" again to shut down . <Windows Key> then "U" and then "R" gets a hot boot . If this works, then it's just in the Power Options area where you have to make some changes . Set Standby and Hibernate to NEVER, then APPLY and OK to exit with the changes intact . |
