496200 2006-11-03 08:01:00 I have a laptop with a network card connected to my home network, the problem arises every time I boot up my laptop, I have a problem with the card having little or no connectivity with certain elements on the network, ie internet, files etc, I then click repair and it goes through the motions of diabling and enabling the card resulting in full operation again, is there something I can do to stop this occuring on every boot up? the_inspector (7721)
496201 2006-11-03 08:14:00 If you've put it on obtain an ip address automatically DON'T.

Put the ip/s in manually.

Otherwise, it'll do what you've just posted.

496202 2006-11-03 08:18:00 How do I do that? the_inspector (7721)
496203 2006-11-03 08:24:00 Is this for an ethernet network? If it is, if u use XP go to My network places / or double click on the network icon in the taskbar / properties.

Internet protocol / TCP/IP. Change it to use the following ip address

And give it an ip which hasnt been used yet. Or not currently in use by the other PC/s on the network.

Do u want this laptop to get on the net / share a folder?

496204 2006-11-03 08:48:00 I am using a broadband modem going to a D-link router, my desktop is hardwired and my laptop is using a network card, and the laptop needs to access files/folders and the net. What order do I need to do the configuring in and how do I allocate ip addresses and dns details? the_inspector (7721)
496205 2006-11-03 08:57:00 Well for the ip address put something in like

ip address: 192.168.0.3

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

default might be the ip the router uses i dont know.

And the preferred and alternate DNS server addresses are usually your ISP's DNS servers. Whatever they are.

Check your ISP's help to find out what they are.

And make sure the workgroup names are the same
