I have connected this via usb because i cannot afford a switch. the problem is that i portforward for some of my p2p clients such as utorrent, dc++, bitteronado, mirc. as soon as do this and i save & reboot my modem. i can no more vist websites or msn or p2p. Why would this be happening?. |

| 496167 | 2006-11-03 10:48:00 | You don't need a switch. You will save yourself a lot of hassles by using the network cable that came with it and connecting this between the router and computer. You only need a switch if you want to connect more than one computer to the router. USB is designed for peripheral devices, not networking! For an actual answer to your problem, you need to find the "save and reboot" option in the menus. Unless you do this it will revert to the previous configuration on a reboot. I can't remember which menu that option is under under but have used that type of modem at another house. |

| 496169 | 2006-11-03 21:11:00 | Some of the troubles with USB to DSL show that USB software drivers may not be as stable as an ethernet/external modem setup. Another thing: all USB devices need significant CPU power to control, especially when in use. You also have no possibility of insertion of a "USB firewall" in between the USB modem and the computer. Newer releases of Windows, especially some of the Service Packs may require a driver upgrade that is not available. If you are running DSL (obviously) your router will act as a physical firewall...a very good idea, even if you have only one puter hooked up to it. ;) |

| 496170 | 2006-11-03 22:37:00 | Don't set a static ip for your computer, for some reason the dlinks dont like it, just let the modem assign the ip from dhcp...it will always assign the same ip to your computers mac address unless you do a reset to factory defaults. Just find out what ip is being assigned to your pc from the modem, and set your port forwarding to that. PortForward.com ALWAYS says you need a static ip address, but they're wrong. I have had a 302g and 502t and never set a static ip to forward ports. That will be the reason you lose connectivity HTH |
