496150 2006-11-03 04:53:00 Today we received at least 25 spam emails. This is despite us using Poptray which is currently deleting about 50-60% of the spam from the server. Amongst the 25 spam that got through (most of which was identified and put directly into our deleted items folder by Xtra spamfilter) there were 8 :horrified with the subject
"Athens Financial Group"
however each one came from a different website -

blma.com
walla.com
pacbell.net
purinmail.com
aol.com
freeproblem.com
australiamail.com
168city.com
The problem in using Poptray to add blocking to this, is if I use 'Options - Blacklist' then I will forever be adding websites just to block this one example. It seems that the same outfit is using a seemingly infinite number of websites !
I have tried using Rules in Poptray to delete anything with "Athens Financial Group" and also "Athens Financial" in the subject line but for some reason that has not worked. :groan:

It seems that it would be easier and less time consuming to simply let the spam pile up and just delete it all in one hit.

Or am I missing something ???

496151 2006-11-13 20:46:00 Their website - http://afgltd.info is apparently hosted by www.ttload.com

I suggest that everyone who is getting this junk mail from "Athens Financial Group" complains to the admin / technical /registrant contact at ttload.com about it. His e-mail address is:

bradpoulos@mail.com

Maybe he will get fed up with receiving so much mail that he gets rid of them. Well, we can hope.... they are the scum of the earth. I am getting 3 or 4 emails from them a day. Alternatively (or as well as), how about trying webmaster@afgltd.info and root@afgltd.info ?

On their website the contact email addresses are:

customer@afgltd.info
vacancy@afgltd.info
human@afgltd.info
financial@afgltd.info
debit@afgltd.info
depositary@afgltd.info

Of course, don't send emails from your real addresses, otherwise they will spam them (if they aren't already)

Or can we subscribe all those addresses to somewhere where they will get loads of spam themselves?

Welcome to PressF1 and I love your name ! Will take on board what you and g/f say . I must admit that I had written off getting a reply so this is a very pleasant surprise indeed .
Misty

PS - presumably you are one of these people, who when I log on at 3 . 25am and am the only member - there are 127 random people viewing . It is quite awesome when that happens . We feel that we are representing PressF1 and want to show that we are responsible representatives (instead of just plain insommniac !) . :waughh:

496154 2006-11-17 14:36:00 Yesterday the afgltd . info website disappeared and it is not there today either . So . . . . it looks like their ISP got fed up with complaints against them . Anyway, as we know that they have multiple domain names (see Godfather's link) and they have now started sending spam out again using the afgltd . cn website address this time .

I have sent off the latest offending email from them to spamcop . net again . If everyone reports them each time they send an email perhaps we can shut down all domain names . Well we can, at least, try .

The contact email addresses to bombard them with spam are the same as above - apart from the . cn ending of course :-

customer@afgltd . cn
vacancy@afgltd . cn
human@afgltd . cn
financial@afgltd . cn
debit@afgltd . cn
depositary@afgltd . cn

. . . and we have the admin contact for the ISP that hosts them as catherinebird54@yahoo . com

If we all report every bit of unwanted email from them, en masse, to spamcop perhaps we can get the bas*ards shut down and hopefully prosecuted for spamming . Well I can dream . . . !

By the way, does anyone know why creating a 'message rule' for specific words from the body of an email doesn't work in Outlook Express? I have tried blocking afgltd as a word (and variations of their domain name, or words contained in the email) but still the spam gets through . Likewise if I try and create a rule deleteing the sender if their name is Athens Financial, it still gets through .

ps I'm actually 'fed-iup-with-athens', but I couldn't log back in as I couldn't remember my password, and the system doesn't email me a reminder even when I ask . I've had to re-register . . . . . . . . .

496155 2006-11-17 18:55:00 OE message rules only work for sender & subject line words. If you can find a common word from either of those you're on the right track for blocking.
So far I'm having great success using Thunderbird as it has a filter that only allows people from your address book into your Inbox. The rest go to the Junkbox.

496156 2006-11-17 19:07:00 Thanks, but it doesn't explain why setting up a mail rule that deletes anything with "Athens Financial" in the subject header (i . e . deletes it from the server before I even download it) doesn't work?

Or perhaps it has to be the full subject header and not just part of it?

496157 2006-11-17 19:08:00 With all this SPAM mail getting through, how are the holders of Actrix accounts getting on. (I may be wrong here with the ISP)

If you send an email to an Actrix holder, you get an imediate reply, requesting you "REPLY" to the email, with empty content before the original gets through. Fail to do this and your email doesnt go.

I imagine once you get through and accepted as a genuine email address you are no longer challanged.

We use Mailwasher Pro, highly recommend it, but I wish it had something similiar to the ISP mentioned above.

Then theres Mail Marshall used by some businesses, havent checked this one out though.

496158 2006-11-22 00:00:00 Good news!

http://www . afgltd . cn/ has also disappeared and I have had no spam from them today .

Hopefully they are finding it immense hassle to keep dodging the bullets!
Tig (11384)
496159 2006-12-14 15:46:00 Beware, they've now set up a website here:

http://norden.hk

But... I've managed to block their spam at last!
