496140 2006-11-03 02:07:00 :help: On booting the top 4 in of my crt 19 in monitor screen is clouded with
horizontal lines, unable to see program short cuts. However over a period of 15 min the screen gradualy clears.Local retailer recomends a new Monitor. however
I have my doubts to his reasoning!! Surely the Monitor performance is governed
by the Intregated Video Bios or what ever?? There for am I correct in assuming that a new Monitor is not the answer.ie its the computor thingy me jig thats the problem?????:help:

496141 2006-11-03 02:26:00 Do you have access to another monitor you can test on the "computor thingy me jig" ;) CYaBro (73)
496142 2006-11-03 03:22:00 Or alternatively, take your monitor next door and try it on a different PC. AvonBill (11358)
496143 2006-11-03 04:33:00 The scanning distortion will most probably be a monitor issue, where the waveshape is distorted in the raster scanning hardware, probably a leaky capacitor or similar that gradually improves as it warms up.

CRT monitors are not usually worth fixing, I agree with the "local retailer"

496144 2006-11-03 07:46:00 GF is correct, and the specific problem is almost certainly "top foldover" where the scanning lines at the top of the screen fold back down. This fault is usually time & temperature sensitive (as you have noticed).

Top cramp or foldover is caused by non-linearity at the beginning of the scan (usually a bias or drive shaping fault) while bottom cramp or foldup is non-linearity at the end of the scan (usually a peak drive limitation or system gain issue).

It can be repaired but it isn't worth the effort unless it is an expensive monitor and relatively new. Either buy a new one or turn it on 30 min before you need it!

Cheers
