2006-11-03 01:04:00 | And do printers actually have batteries? I get this error message when trying to print: "Parts inside your printer are at the end of thier service life . Contact your dealer for replacement . " Using Google, A9 and several other search engines only produced a comment that an internal battery may need replacing, or that the cartridge is out of date . I tried taking the printer apart but gave up - no obvious screws to undo, only several press-moveable hinges that seem to need a special tool . Model: Epson C43UX Not sure how old . I 'always' scan reciepts into a special folder on the HD, plus put the paper reciept in a specail filing cabinet folder . Think I can find the %#$@*! thing? :groan:  And yes, I do NOT use Epson cartridges . Warehouse Stationary cheapies - but they have always been A-OK and I did not put in a new cartridge when the error message appeared . Ideas, other than placing it in the driveway and seeing how far the bits fly when driving over it?:badpc: A new Epson at DSE only costs $80 . I just hate to throw away something that may be fixable . Thanks .

2006-11-03 01:09:00 | Steve, as far as I know, home printers dont have a battery, however I have been wrong in the past. I would 1st suggest as usual, to check the manufacturers web site. Why people forget this I'm not sure. 2nd, $80 printer at DSE?, forget it. You get what you pay for. $80 printer, $70 cartridges!!!

2006-11-03 01:16:00 | Thanks Sol. Went to the official Epson web site, did some searches, but nothing. Doubt if printers have batteries - all juice via USB would be my guess.

2006-11-03 01:18:00 | Sometimes messages like that refer to the absorbent pad that soaks up waste ink. There might be a reset method. Hunt out the software utility metioned in this post www.gatago.com

2006-11-03 01:28:00 | Those sort of messages often refer to the printing heads. Have you noticed the print quality deteriorating lately? They often need to be realigned or cleaned. The printer normally comes with software to realign the heads, but you'll need a cottonbud and a little meths or something similar to clean them. Ink can also builld up around the contacts on the cartridges if they havent been changed in a while.

2006-11-03 03:18:00 | I have an old HP printer that doesn't like old cartridges. It was built in the time when HP thought it would be a good idea to electronically time-stamp their cartridges (they still do). When the printer thinks the cartridge is too old it refuses to print. The print driver software sends the time to the printer from the PC. If you set the time temporarily back on the PC it prints perfectly well. (I refuse to throw out a perfectly good cartridge :2cents: ). I doubt that this will be your problem, but hey, its easy to try.
