| 496478 | 2006-11-07 02:12:00 | Thanks for your help Are you sure this is a safe program to download and it is definitely free? The MajorGeeks site is legit. If they were to dare put out malware, they would be clobbered by zillions of techies! I have downloaded many programs from that site with no problems but after downloading you could do a virus scan if you are paranoid. And yes, it is FREE. |

Tom, over the years I have had friends send Works files to those of us on email lists and it always causes a problem since few people can open and use the files. That was simply my point, not that MSWorks is inferior to Word. |

If I was still to write articles for the local newspapers I would use WORD. And to be perfectly honest I feel that very large numbers of people are now using WORD who would at one time been using MSWORKS. But even so I still reckon the number of people using WORKS will be more than those using WORD - if we consider private individuals. And then of course not all versions of WORD are compatible with each other. MSoft made sure people had to update every so often - whereas MSWORKS as far as my experience goes is compatible over all versions - I use v4.5 and agree with the writer who reckoned that is the best version. The real big advantage with WORKS I find is its very simple and effective spreadsheet and database functions. Particularly the database (OK its flat file - so what!!). Tom |

I fully agree.I very often get friends forwarding documents to me so I can put it in to a format they can read.Open Office is the one in documents.Works only "works" for a few. |
